We recognise how trauma can shape the way individuals perceive the world and interact with others. Many people with a disability have experienced some form of trauma. A lack of understanding of trauma and its impact on a person can lead to misinterpretations of behaviour, hinder progress or healing, strain relationships, and cause shame or further emotional distress. Bridie and Sally throughout their professional journey have completed training and are Trust-Based-Relational-Intervention® (TBRI) Practitioners. With extensive experience across the disability, community services and Out of Home Care sectors, we have supported children, young people and adults with a diverse range of needs, including individuals with complex support needs and behaviours of concern. At AssistU, we believe that **all behaviour is communication**. Our trauma-informed approach allows us to look beyond the behaviour itself and consider the experiences, emotions, environment and unmet needs that may be influencing it. We know that great support is about much more than filling a shift. It is about building trust, creating consistency and finding the right people. That is why we place a strong focus on carefully matching participants with support workers based on their individual needs, personality, interests and the experience of our team. We also understand that supporting a participant often means working alongside their wider support network. We value collaboration with families, Support Coordinators, allied health professionals, case managers, schools and other services to provide coordinated and consistent support.
